Diploma in Christian Counselling

Intro

The ACC recognised "Diploma in Christian Counselling" course is relevant for anyone who wishes to further their counselling training to diploma level. It will run one day a week for four terms.

Requirements

Applicants need to have completed the CCTS Christian Counselling Model & Practice OCN Level 3 course or equivalent.

Course Content

Students will study a wide range of modules including:

  • Working with Depression, Anger, Anxiety, Shame, Sexual abuse, Bereavement and loss, Substance abuse, Personality types and Personality disorders;
  • Group supervision;
  • Model Practice;
  • Group work;
  • Other counselling models;
  • Professional practice;
  • Social issues;
  • Human growth and development;
  • Creative skills;
  • Healthy living;
  • Psychodrama;
  • Fieldwork placement.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Apply the core model (adapted CWR) to various specialist areas, e.g. depression, anxiety disorders, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse etc.
  • Demonstrate their use of the model through group supervision;
  • Compare core model with other counselling models;
  • Participate in and evaluate the use of psychodrama and analytic group work;
  • Discuss issues such as diversity and abuse of power;
  • Use creative techniques, sand play, music, art within counselling;
  • Evaluate the purpose and use of supervision;
  • Explore the concept and delights of healthy living;
  • Explore current issues in Counselling Practice and Research.

Additional Work

  • Course participants will be required to engage in direct reading, journaling and written assignments for assessment. This will amount on average to 4 to 6 hours per week;
  • Students will be required to arrange their own personal counselling;
  • Students will be required to arrange a suitable placement, in order to log 100 hours of counselling practice under supervision;
  • Any costs incurred through the individual counselling and placement supervision are in addition to the course fees.
