Introduction to Christian Pastoral Counselling

Intro

NOCN Level 2 "Introduction to Christian Pastoral Counselling" Courses are currently run in Southampton, or have run in Edinburgh, Christchurch, Jersey, Oxford, and Trowbridge.

Course Content

NOCN level 2 is intended as preparation for Certificate in Christian Counselling (NOCN level 3) or higher and is for those who wish to understand a Biblical method of counselling and pastoral care, and to begin to develop their listening skills. By the end of the course we hope that participants will be able to:

  • Define a Christian model of counselling based upon the work of Larry Crabb (exploring the spiritual, rational, volitional, emotional and physical aspects of the person and their issues);
  • Use the skills of attending, active listening, empathy, questioning and summary;
  • Discuss the importance of both confidentiality and the particular qualities of an effective counsellor;
  • Explore their own reactions to the course material and develop general self-awareness.

Additional Work

Course participants will be required to engage in assignments. This will amount, on average, to 16 hours per course.

NB: Please note that 100% attendance is required in order to receive the course certificate and some assignments do not need to be submitted until after the course has ended.
