Introduction to Christian Counselling

Intro

The next Introduction course will run in Southampton, Central Hall May 2012. Future courses will be run in Southampton and Edinburgh 2012.

Course Content

The Introduction course is intended as preparation for the OCN level 3 Christian Counselling Model & Practice (previously named Certificate in Christian Counselling). The course is for those who wish to understand a Biblical method of counselling and pastoral care, and to begin to develop their listening skills. By the end of the course we hope that participants will be able to:

Define a Christian model of counselling based upon the work of Larry Crabb (exploring the spiritual, rational, volitional, emotional and physical aspects of the person and their issues);
Use the skills of attending, active listening, empathy, questioning and summary;
Discuss the importance of both confidentiality and the particular qualities of an effective counsellor;
Explore their own reactions to the course material and develop general self-awareness.

Additional Work

Course participants will be required to engage in assignments. This will amount, on average, to 16 hours per course.

NB: Please note that 100% attendance is required in order to receive the course certificate and some assignments do not need to be submitted until after the course has ended.
