Supervision Christian Counselling Stage 2

Intro

The courses Stage 1 and 2 are the first two stages of a comprehensive training programme developed by ACC for those who wish to practice professionally as Supervisors at the highest level in the future.

Stage 2 "Supervision of Christian Counselling" is for those who have completed a Certificate in Christian Counsellor training and Stage 1 of Supervision.

Requirements

Applicants need to have completed at least 150 hrs counselling practice and no supervision practice for this stage of training is necessary nor an interview is required. Students need to complete a written application and give evidence of prior training at Stage 1 and applicants require a reference from their Church/ Organisation or Team Leader.

NB: Because Stages 1 & 2 of this training are taught as an integrated course, it is only possible to attend Stage 2 after completing ACC Supervision Stage 1.

Course Content

Course participants will learn:

Introduction to the core supervision model and the use of the CWR model within the supervision context;
More complex issues within the working alliance;
Development of supervision skills.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

Describe the double matrix model of supervision and how to use the ‘CWR’ model within the supervision context;
Discuss the ACC Code of Ethics and its implications for counselling/supervision practice;
Outline the legal responsibilities of supervision;
Establish contact with a supervisee and design a contract;
Outline the therapeutic, educative, normative boundaries for supervision;
Assess the dynamics necessary for an effective working alliance practice and assess their own skills: eg. contracting, negotiating, conflict management, assisting supervisees′ client work, decision making, reviewing, assessment of supervisees′ learning styles and supervisors teaching style and modelling interpersonal skills.

Additional Work

12 hours contact time (of which 7 hours didactic and 5 hours practice). 3 hours for personal course journal and reading.
